Merlyn Mk 6A

May 20, 2026ClassifiedEdward Hinsa

The Merlyn Mk 6A was a very worthy and much rarer competitor to the Lotus 23 and Elva mk 7. For some reason it still commands a lesser value than those more famous marques.

We have the history and paperwork on this car right back to its purchase from Colchester in early 1965  by Ron Evans of London Ontario.

The car was initially run with an FJ BMC engine for several years and after a fire at Mosport the restoration was started by Ollie Clubine at Britain West. Brian Evans bought the car in the late 80 s and rebuilt it with a 3 valve Ford crossflow motor.

The car was sold to Ed Ziegler of Pennsylvania and then on to Tom O Grady of Dallas TX which is where I bought it in 2017

The engine, gear box, brakes, steering , suspension corners and fuel system have all been either replaced overhauled or upgraded over the past 5 years.

The car has had podiums at the Glen, PVGP , Put In Bay and all the Eastern Ontario tracks. It ran the fastest VH 1 time at CTMP Mosport last year:  1:34.1

The engine is a 1650 Ford cross flow all steel with new Weber 45s and dyno sheets are available.

The Hewland has a new CWP and synchro rings and various spare ratios are available.

The brakes were overhauled this winter and new master cylinders fitted.

The car has two sets of panasports one with brand new Avons the other with 3 events on the tires.

Bodywork moulds are available and there is a long list of spares including another fresh engine which can be negotiated separately.

This car has beaten many of the Lotus 23 s and is a very predictable and fun drive for the novice or hot shoe alike.
